The BC Curriculum website provides teachers with in-depth knowledge about what students should know and what they will learn, depending on their grades. Some of the subjects discussed on this site are Science, Social Studies, English Language Arts, Languages, and Mathematics. For grades K-12, the subjects are broken down into Big Ideas, Core Competencies (Communication, Thinking, Personal and Social), and Learning Standards (Curricular Competencies and Content).
Splitting the subject areas into categories helps teachers and parents know what to expect from their children/students. This also gives teachers an idea of what their students may or may not know, so they can plan reviews or introductory units for specific subjects.
