My name is Danica Davidson, and I was born in Kamloops but raised in 100 Mile House. Throughout elementary school, I was involved in many sports teams. I played soccer for about a year or two, followed by wrestling (1 year), cross-country running (1 year), volleyball (3 years), basketball (2 years), and then baseball for one year. Of all the sports I played, volleyball is one of my favourites. I moved from 100 Mile to Kamloops in 2014 and have been here since.

From 2013 to 2018, I was in a youth program called “Army Cadets.” We did field training exercises and learned how to build shelters, use a compass, and do plenty of other outdoor activities. Cadets were required to participate in a fitness test every month, and depending on their fitness level and age, they were offered opportunities to participate in regional expeditions.
In May 2018, I was given the opportunity to participate in a 9-day expedition to Salt Spring Island, BC, involving mountain biking and sea kayaking. Participating in that expedition and the expedition course I took in 2016 was a lot of fun, and I saw some fantastic sites. Still, my all-time favourite years as a cadet were when I staffed at the Vernon Cadet Summer Training Center, which made my overall cadet experience unforgettable. This program is what inspired me to become a teacher.

However, I failed several courses during my first year in the sciences and tried again the following semester, only to achieve the same results. In Fall 2019, I switched to the Bachelor of Arts program with an English major and a psychology minor. Going into the arts program, I wasn’t sure what to do, so I considered enrolling in the English as a Second Language program after earning my arts degree and then pursuing the Education program. But that was not the case. I thought back to my teaching experience in Cadets. I remembered I had fun teaching; many younger cadets wanted to be in my classes. That ultimately made me pursue the education program instead of my original plan. In 2024, I applied for the Bachelor of Education Program with 90 credits, and although I wasn’t expecting to be accepted immediately, I’m grateful that I was.
I’m also a festive person. Whenever a holiday is around the corner, you’ll see me wearing themed earrings, cardigans, and hair accessories as a way to spread the holiday spirit. Since I’m pretty into the holidays, I would like to offer students opportunities to share the holidays they celebrate. One way I would approach this in the future would be to research all the different holidays throughout the year and incorporate them into the classrooms.
During my free time, I enjoy photography, creative writing, and playing video games. However, when possible, I go camping, fishing, hiking, and paddleboarding with my family. I’m also working on myself and trying new things to learn more and acquire other hobbies.
