Indigenous Pedagogy Framework
This assignment helped me with teaching and learning because it discussed the importance of building student connections with me as their teacher and with each other. Implementing this framework is one step toward a more inclusive classroom. As a teacher, I want to ensure that students feel that their opinions and who they are as people are valued in my classroom. I don’t want any student to feel left out. This assignment only cemented my feelings on this matter.
Science Unit Plan
While working on my “Newton’s Three Laws of Motion” unit plan, I thought more in-depth about how I would reach all students through assessment and the lesson content. Before and within the program, I aimed to make learning more fun and engaging, and this unit plan is one of the first assignments that gave me this opportunity. Creating this unit plan helped to further my teaching journey because when I compare my first lessons to the lessons inside the unit, they are very different in content and understanding of the curriculum.
Math Unit Plan
I haven’t been good at or liked math, and I still don’t; however, looking through my math unit, I enjoyed all the activities I can do to help students of all learning styles have a positive outlook on mathematics rather than be like me. Doing this assignment helped me realize how much influence I have over the subjects I dislike and how, despite not liking it, I can teach mathematics in a way that combines learning and fun. It also helped me develop questions to help students advance their knowledge, which I didn’t include in my past lessons.
